STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Tickets went on sale Wednesday morning for one of Statesboro’s biggest events of the year.
Some people lined up as early as 4 a.m. to buy seats for the 2018 Dancing with the Statesboro Stars show next month.
Local volunteers train with experienced dancers to compete for the title. It benefits Safe Haven Domestic Violence Shelter that helps victims in Bulloch and surrounding counties.
Last year, the teams raised more than $130,000.
“This year, they’re highly competitive. Not only do they want to win that mirror ball to see who dances the best, which on Sunday and the judges pick on Thursday. What they’re really competitive about is raising awareness about domestic violence and raising funds which are desperately needed,” said Kimberly Billings, PR, Legal Services Director.
One of the dancers this year - our own Harley Strickland - was in line buying tickets.
The line didn't last long. The Thursday night show sold out in two hours.
The shows are Oct. 4 and 7.
