VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - Vidalia Police say a fatal shooting and armed robbery took place at RJ Pope Traditional Menswear, Friday afternoon.
Investigators say the gunman walked into the East 51st Street store around 1:30 p.m., shot the store employee, and left. Someone walked in shortly after, found the victim, and called for help.
“Right now, we’re following all leads, gathering every piece of evidence that we can,” said Chief, Frank Waits. “We ask for the community if they know anything to please contact us. No lead is too small. No piece of evidence is too small.”
The chief tells us they don’t have any new developments at this time.
“We get calls and we follow every lead, but as far as hostages and things like that, no. I think Heritage locked down their school. He was headed westbound in a different direction than the schools were,” he said. “Never had a case like this in at least the last 13 years.”
GBI is assisting with the investigation. If you have any information, you are urged to contact police.
