CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - Nearly five months after a tornado ripped through Chatham County, one of the most damaged areas is re-opening on Monday.
The Oatland Island Wildlife Center is holding a soft re-opening on Dec. 17.
The center had been closed indefinitely after a powerful tornado ripped through the area back in July. Staff says the center is not completely back to normal yet, but it’s finally ready enough to allow people back inside.
There is no cost for admission, but organizers are asking for donations. The center says some exhibits are still under construction, so all of the animals are not yet back at the center. The trail is clear and open.
The center is also planning a celebration in January to thank the community for its support as it rebuilt.
