SPD investigating fatal Chatham Street shooting

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah Police say a man has died after being shot Monday night.

It happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the first block of Chatham Street. Officers responded and found 29-year-old Kyle Cook suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Memorial Medical Center where he later died from his injuries, according to Savannah Police.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.

Tuesday, investigators seemed to focus on an area along a canal at the end of Chatham Street, using metal detectors and other tools to search for items potentially linked to the shooting. The canal is part of the Vernon River.

“We’re not sure exactly what happened there. This is one we could use some help on. You can’t just rely on the police department or the city to control crime. It’s going to have to be the entire village. Everybody’s got to get involved in this. Somebody knows what happened there, and we need to know what that is,” said District 4 Alderman, Julian Miller.
