CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Former state representative Katie Arrington, who lost the first district congressional race to Democrat Joe Cunningham last November, has taken a new job at the Pentagon according to former campaign spokesman Michael Mule.

Arrington will be highly qualified expert as a member of the Undersecretary of Defense Acquisition and Sustainment team. Her official title will be “special assistant for cybersecurity to the assistant secretary of defense for acquisition," according to Department of Defense spokesman Lt. Col. Mike Andrews.

She will have access to senior leaders in the department and was appointed by Undersecretary of Defense Ellen Lord.

“Undersecretary of Defense Ellen Lord has full faith and confidence in her experience, and is excited to have her on the team," Andrews said.

The Department of Defense defines the highly qualified expert position as “individuals who possess uncommon, special knowledge, skills, and experience in an occupational field, and judgment that is accorded authority and status by peers or the public.”

Mule added that Arrington will keep her house in Summerville and commute back and forth between Washington D.C. and the Lowcountry.

“She’s excited to continue serving the community and definitely our warfighters," Mule said.
