Fatal crash in Tattnall County overnight knocks out power

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Early in the morning a man driving a car crashed into a utility pole knocking out power in the Tattnall county area.

Just before 3AM Sunday morning, a man was traveling northbound in a Ford Focus on Harris Kicklighter road one mile from Georgia State Highway 144 in Tattnall county when he came around a curve and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle went airborne after leaving the roadway striking a utility pole, rolling several times before coming to a rest near a tree.

It took emergency crews around 30 minutes to free the man from the car. Georgia State Patrol said the driver of the car died at the scene.

Canoocheee EMC says that around 100 customers were without power in the area. At this time, most of the power is back on and crews are working to restore power to the rest of the area.

Georgia State Patrol says speed and wet road conditions played a role in the crash.

The man’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

There were no other injuries. Georgia State Patrol is continuing their investigation into the cause of the accident.
