BULLOCH COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - Officials in Bulloch County are continuing the search for a missing hunter.
A 61-year-old man went duck hunting in a boat on Kennedy Pond/Lake Debra near Highway 46 on Saturday. His wife reported him missing Sunday morning when he did not return.
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office deputies and DNR officials have located his boat. One difficult aspect of this is officials don’t know if or where the man fell in, making the search area virtually thr whole span of Kennedy Pond.
“That’s where we have some stories that are coming from different ones. Some they they saw him go across, some say they saw him go out. Nobody actually saw him go into the water, so that’s something you have to keep in mind when you have no point of entry, because we have nobody that saw him go over the side of the boat," said Bulloch County Sheriff, Noel Brown. “You’re dealing with a murky bottom, a lot of vegetation, a lot of stumps, different levels of depth. You can go to two to three feet of water, maybe go to 10 feet of water, undisclosed depths. You’re dealing with that throughout. You have channels. The biggest thing probably for the divers that come down from Burke County with their dive team is the vegetation."
Out of respect for the family and their privacy, the sheriff’s office isn’t naming the missing hunter at this time.
The Dive Team from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was called and responded to the scene.
Crews are expected back out at first light Tuesday morning. Sheriff Brown was adamant that they’ll be out there as long as it takes to find the man and bring some answers to his family.
