CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 144th house in Chatham County, creating a new beginning for a local family.
After a brief ceremony, Kawaka McGert was handed the keys to her new home on Larkin Avenue in Savannah. McGert worked alongside countless volunteers to construct the home. Community support and generous donations from several local organizations and businesses made it all possible.
“It’s a blessing, and I’m grateful for me and my kids to have a new home," McGert said.
“We have a huge need for affordable housing and home ownership in our community. We humbly request the community continue to help us," said Harold Tessendorf, Executive Director, Coastal Empire Habitat for Humanity.
At the dedication ceremony Wednesday, Habitat formally launched its “2019 Building Futures Campaign." The goal is to raise more than $440,000 this year to help seven more families in Chatham County.
