SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah State basketball teams split Saturday’s MEAC contests with South Carolina State at The Marsh.
The men were able to hold off the Bulldogs for a 92-88 win, while the women fell 71-60.
Zach Sellers scored 29 points to lead the Tigers to an important conference victory. Statesboro native Qua Smith added 20 points off the bench, including a two-handed dunk in the final seconds to seal the victory.
SSU improves to 5-14 overall with the win and are now 2-3 in MEAC play.
It took the Savannah State women six minutes to score their first points, and that extended drought to open the game put the Tigers in too big a hole to overcome.
Myasia Jones scored 20 points to pace the Tigers offensively in the losing effort.
