SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Police Department held a promotion and badge pinning ceremony on Friday.
Two officers were promoted at 14 officers celebrated their graduation at the Savannah Riverfront Marriott. The ceremony marked the completion of law enforcement training.
One of the first officers to be pinned decided to make the occasion even more memorable, dropping down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend. He said he prepared as much for the proposal as he did for the pinning.
“We’re originally from New York. We had to get her brother from New York, her two best friends from New York, her father from Florida, and we had to keep it a secret from her for quite a while,” said graduate, Anthony Bartelini.
“This is a very special day for these recruits. They’ve spend 11 to 12 weeks in the Academy. They’ve spent another eight weeks in our patrol school, and today is going to be the day they get pinned, and they’re going to start transitioning to their police training officer phase,” said Lt. Hiram Rivera, Training Director, Savannah PD.
Rivers says the officers will be assigned precincts and will be hitting the streets soon.
