Wilmington Island residents work together to save turtles from construction site

CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - Some Wilmington Island residents are coming together to save animals from a construction site.

Around 100 turtles have been saved from the ditch at Penn Waller and Concord, so far. Their habitat is being covered up with rocks and dirt as construction crews work on the site.

More turtles are coming up every day. One volunteer we spoke with says it’s a group effort.

“We had kids out here who dug in the ditch and people who were pulling out turtles and other people that were relocating them to other places, and it was just a great team effort, and lots and lots of turtles were saved," Kim Tutan said.
