SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -Next month will be one of the biggest events in Savannah. The Savannah St. Patrick’s Day parade will be on March 16th but events are already starting.
The Irish festival Committee kicked off the Irish season today. This marks the 27 years the non-profit, all-volunteer festival has been going on.
Irish music filled the Savannah Civic Center on Saturday as people enjoyed dancing, arts and crafts and some tasty Irish food.
“It’s just a great way to kick off the Irish season in Savannah with family and friends,” said Deana Shores with the Irish Festival Committee Parade.
Deana Shores says this event is something everyone can enjoy whether you are Irish or not. Jenny Adams says she can agree.
“We come out here every year," said Jenny Adams. "My husband is Irish. I’m Scottish. So, we come out here to enjoy the start of the green season.”
“It’s very close knit," said Shores. "We support each other. We support the community. We look forward to St. Patrick’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day season with the festivities.”
Shores says there is a lot of things people love about the festival but her favorite is the dancing.
“We are blessed to have two Irish dancing schools here in Savannah and it’s remarkable to watch how they go from little wee ones to growing up to becoming world class champions,” said Shores.
