SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -The annual Hearts for Heroes Red Tie Gala was held on Saturday night to help raise money for a very worthy cause.
The money from the event will go to the 200 Club of the Costal Empire.
“We are just honored and so proud that the Pooler chamber of commerce has selected the 200 Club and all the family members we proudly and honorably serve,” said Mark Dana, president of the 200 club.
The 200 Club provides immediate and life-long monetary assistance to the families of emergency personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty.
“The rest of the family we keep in touch with forever and make sure they go to college at no cost to them," said Dana. "So, 100% of all the money we get, like here tonight, goes to those family members.”
Dana says events like this help bring awareness to what the club does and also helps fund the organization.
“Its about a $250,000 commitment every time we have a line of duty death so an event like this is so important to us to help us with our cause,” said Dana.
A silent and live auction was held on Saturday to help raise money.
“For the Pooler Chamber this is what we want to do," said Sue Maxwell with the Pooler Chamber of Commerce. "It’s our passion – to help our residents and neighbors and the community. This is what we are all about. We want to be the chamber of commerce that is there for everyone if we can be.”
The event will be wrapping up shortly. After the bidding was over, guests enjoyed the band and a little dancing.
