7th annual Chocolate Run happening Saturday in Statesboro

Statesboro to hold Chocolate Run

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - The 7th Annual Chocolate 5K/10K Run will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Statesboro.

Participants will enjoy this 5K/10K run through the beautiful Georgia Southern University Campus.

The event will include a Fun Run/Walk, 5K Run/Walk, and 10K Run/Walk.

Organizers expect their largest crowd of runners ever to come out to help a worthy cause.

By the time the horn sounds Saturday morning, as many as 800 runners could be signed up for the 5K or 10K. The race benefits Open Hearts Community Mission that serves homeless in Statesboro. Since it’s started, the race has raised around $200,000 for the cause. Organizers say they’re still amazed it has become Statesboro’s biggest and most popular race so quickly.

“I really do think it’s the cause behind it. It’s a great way to put emphasis on a heavy subject in a not hard way, and to bring attention to the homeless need in our community,” said Jennifer Davis, Chair, The Chocolate Run.

You’ll still be able to register if you walk up Saturday morning. WTOC’s Bureau Chief Dal Cannady will be announcing the winners.
