911 coworkers rally around dispatcher

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Robert and Melissa Fail have tried to document what they lost in their house fire. It would take less time to count anything that wasn't lost . Two weeks ago, Robert, a 911 dispatcher of nine years, got the call every dispatcher dreads. It was his wife on the line, screaming for help.

"I picked up and she said the house is on fire. I immediately told her to get out," Robert explained.

Robert paged out Candler County fire and EMS then tried to calm Melissa over the phone.

"It was one of the toughest things I've had to do because honestly I wanted to panic myself," he added.

Dispatchers, firefighters and others will prepare and sell lunches to help the couple start over.

"It's a big BBQ sandwich, potato chips and a cookie. It's a big man's meal," detailed 911 director Kelly Barnard.

"I don't have co-workers or friends, I have family," Robert noted. "They've looked after us this whole time. It's amazing what they've done right down the clothes I'm wearing today."

Those in his 911 family said they're only too glad to help someone through tragedy who's helped so many through the same thing. Anyone who wants to contribute can drop off donations at the Bulloch 911 Center on Highway 301 North, next to the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
