Two new justices elected to GA Supreme Court

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A new chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court has been elected. Justice Carol Hunstein will take the new job on July 1.

Hunstein is replacing Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears who is stepping down June 30.

Justice George Carley has also been elected as the new presiding justice.

Both justices will be sworn in by former governor Zell Miller at the state Supreme Court on July 1 at 11am.

Hunstein is the former DeKalb County Superior Court judge and Carley has served in the state House of Representatives as well as a chief judge.
