SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah emergency officials are investigating an overnight chemical leak at the Troknox Plant on the city's eastside.

Around 11:45pm, HAZMAT crews and Savannah Fire were called to the chemical plant on Ferr-McGee Road just off east President Street.

Plant officials say "titanium tetra-chloride" leaked from a holding tank, forming a large vapor cloud.  The wind pushed the fumes over top the Savannah River, toward South Carolina.

Plant workers were evacuated for a short time but were allowed to return to work once the leak was under control. The Chatham Emergency Management Agency is investigating.
