SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham police have identified the man found dead on a dirt road on Hutchinson Island Thursday afternoon.

See Body found on Hutchinson Island.

Police say the victim is 21-year-old Necco McCraw. He was a soldier stationed at Hunter Army Airfield. Third ID officials say McCrawl was a private assigned to the 110th Quartermaster Company of the 3rd Sustainment Brigade.

Detectives and forensic technicians spent several hours Thursday looking for evidence and say they are treating it as a homicide.

Assistant chief Willie Lovett with Savannah-Chatham police says when the victim's wife was notified about her husband's death Thursday, she told police her 1-year-old son was also missing.

An alert for the boy was immediately sent out and soon after, the toddler was found along Highway 80 in Garden City and brought to Garden City police.

See Boy found wandering alone son of homicide victim.

The boy is now with his mother. Police say once an arrest is made in the case, they will be able to answer questions on how the boy ended up on a busy road in Garden City.

Police say this was not a random attack. They tell us McCraw knew his attacker or attackers. The Third ID is working with Savannah-Chatham police on this investigation.

McCraw's car is also missing. Police say it is a 2002 dark blue Cadillac Deville with a large scratch along the driver's side, a military decal on the front windshield and a Georgia license plate.
