SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Some senior citizens got a furry surprise on Wednesday. The Ruth Byck Adult Day Care hosted animals from Oatland Island.

During the animal therapy session seniors got to hold and pet an owl and an opposum. The center regularly brings in animals of all kinds to provide entertainment and learning opportunities.

"In the past we've also had alligators, snakes, armadillos and it's just wonderful," said Katy Harne, director of the Ruth Byck Adult Day Care. "They do a great educational program. They tell them about the animal's diets and habits. And of course we're allowed to show and touch them, so they enjoy it here."

The center brings in the animals because most of the seniors cannot travel to see the animals in their natural habitats.
