SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - They're battling through a recession, and now Savannah teachers are looking to fight back.

Tonight Savannah Federation of Teachers came together to talk about their upcoming furloughs and what they, as a group, could do to make sure more aren't on the way. President of the group, Alfreda Goldwire, says it's up to individuals to push hard to get the results they desire.

"I think they will get more involved politically.  We elect people into these offices. And as Darthur Pelote so eloquently put it, 'we the people put them there. And we the people can take them out,'" said Goldwire.

The school board decided to take three state mandated furlough days during the fall semester.
