SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -The Savannah Federation of Teachers led a march at the Board of Education on Bull Street urging school district officials not to furlough school employees.
The school board is considering furloughing the days that would normally be used for in-service and planning.
"We're getting nothing at all, wherever you were last year you are this year," said Alfreda Goldwire from the Savannah Teachers Federation. "Everybody is taking a cut by why should it be when you can rearrange and make it happen."
"It was a difficult decision for the superintendent as well as the school board but this is something they believe will save money and save jobs," said Savannah-Chatham School District public information officer Karla Redditte.
Marching with the employees were members of other unions and community organizations.
