SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Dozens of young people got out to raise awareness about the Responsible Education About Life Act (REAL Act), a federal bill promoting sex education in schools on Friday. Groups like the Chatham County Youth Commission and others held up signs at the Old Courthouse on Bull Street, trying to bring change to the way sex education is taught in schools.
"A lot of young people do care," said Alderman Van Johnson of the City of Savannah. "I think that's a misnomer, that young people don't care. They do care, nobody just takes the time to ask them. And once we start asking them, we're really surprised and pleased by what they have to say.
The rally helps kick off a national week of action focused on sex education.
