
HAMPTON COUNTY, SC (WTOC) - Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the home invasion, shooting and kidnapping of a Hampton County woman.
Hampton County sheriff's investigators say around 1:30am Monday, two suspects used a brick to break into 78-year-old Margaret Gooding's home while a third suspect waited outside.
Officials say Gooding, who owns a handgun, fought back and three exchanged gunfire. Gooding was shot at least once in the stomach. The suspects weren't hurt, according to officials.
That's when investigators say the suspects stuffed her into the trunk of her car and took off, finally abandoning the car 25 miles away in Walterboro, South Carolina.
Gooding was found alive 12 hours later by a nearby business owner. She is now recovering in the hospital.

The first suspect was arrested Monday afternoon when officials say he tried to cash one of the victim's checks for $6,000 at a Walterboro BB&T Bank.
The other two suspects were arrested Tuesday morning
Investigators say 30-year-old Stevie Lamont Aiken is charged with burglary, kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill, grand larceny, felon in possession of a weapon and armed robbery.
Nathaniel Harris, 48, is charged with burglary, kidnapping, assault and battery with intent to kill, grand larceny, felon in possession of a weapon and armed robbery.
Derrick Ladel Aiken, 29, is charged with accessory before and after the fact.
Officials say Stevie Aiken and Derrick Aiken are brothers.
