STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Georgia lawmakers go back to Atlanta in January to find ways to keep the state running even in a bad economy.
State Senator Jack Hill said Friday the General Assembly will need to cut more spending from the current budget before they can even look at a budget for next year. Hill spoke to a gathering of the Statesboro Chamber of Commerce. He told the group he's optimistic as unemployment claims aren't climbing anymore and have settled at 10 percent and businesses keep moving to Georgia.
"The good news is we're entering the end of the recession and not the middle or the beginning and one year ago, that's where we were, explained Hill, a Republican from Reidsville who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee."
He also told the group that it will take a rebound in the economy to begin refilling state revenues and he's not sure how long that will take.
