REIDSVILLE, GA (WTOC) - A Tattnall County man is dead and his girlfriend is recovering from surgery in what relatives are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

Tattnall County sheriff's chief investigator Lt. Kevin Keyfauver said around 11pm Monday, a woman on Joy Bluff Road outside Reidsville called 911 to report shooting inside her home.

Keyfauver said deputies and EMT's arrived to find Jeanie Herb and Jose Bonilla shot. Herb had been shot three times and Bonilla once. Bonilla died of his wounds.

Herb was taken to Memorial Health and was still in surgery Tuesday morning for gunshots to the face, chest and shoulder.

Keyfauver declined further comment, citing an ongoing GBI investigation.

A man and woman at the home Tuesday identified Herb as their niece and that she and Bonilla lived there with them.

They said the couple were arguing before 11pm when they went to their bedroom. Seconds later they said they heard gunshots in the hall. They turned around to find Herb on the floor.

As they rushed for a phone to call 911, they say they heard another shot and Bonilla fall to the floor.
