VIDALIA, GA (WTOC) - "It's a mess," says Vidalia resident Billy Gault, as he looks over his flooded yard.
Billy Gault is one of many Toombs County residents facing rising water as a nearby creek has broken its banks and swallowed his yard.
"I think we had about nine inches so far since Sunday and there's no where for it to go," said Gault.
"The ground is already saturated and we got a lot of rain fast and there's more to come but no where for it to go," said Donna Lee, who is a coordinator with The American Red Cross.
According to Lee at least 10 families have left their homes because of the flooding and 2 of those 10 had to be rescued.
"It's still rising, that's the bad problem. I have about four to five inches and it will be in my house," said Gault.
"The homes aren't flooded at this moment; however, they can't get out where they are at," said Lee.
The Red Cross says people in the area need to be careful and not underestimate the power of the flood waters.
"You never want to drive through water you don't know how deep it is . It's already washing over a dirt road and of course the faster the water rushes over that road the more that road will wash out," said Lee.
The Red Cross expects the water to continue to rise. If flooding gets worse and more families are impacted, the Red Cross says they are prepared to open a shelter if necessary.
