SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One area teen is doing what she can to help seniors in our community. In fact, she started a tradition at her school raising close to one thousand dollars for Senior Citizens Inc.
Haley Hardeman is an eighth grader at St. Andrews School on Wilmington Island when she's not in class she's here at Senior Citizens Inc. helping out with their meals on wheels program. A program that delivers 1800 meals a day to seniors in seven counties.
"Because they can't make meals and they need to eat something,"said Hardeman.
For three years, Haley has raised money for this program coordinating dress down days at the school for Meals on Wheels. St. Andrew's director of public relations Scott Searcy says the school is really proud of what Haley has done.
"Haley took that on herself, she wrote a letter to administration team saying this is important and we are proud of her," said Searcy.
"$300 this year, $300 last year, and $300 the year before," noted Hardeman.
Sandy Griffin at Senior Citizens Inc. says they appreciate all the extra help.
"For someone her age to take on this philanthropic is a marvelous statement in our day in time it's great for our organization and any organization that a young person decides to get behind,"said Griffin.
And to encourage her peers to do the same.
Haley tells WTOC she plans to keep doing projects to help seniors, maybe with even more dress down days to come this school year.
