SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students at Windsor Forest Elementary kicked off their Pennies for Patients campaign Monday afternoon.
They gathered in the school gym to hear how just a few pennies from them may help save a life one day.
Each classroom will collect pennies as well as other donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The class with the largest donation will win a pizza party. The fundraiser runs through the end of February.
"It's a great program for kids to get involved in and help their peers," said campaign manager Jean Doliber. "The number one cause for childhood death is Leukemia, so it's a great way for them to help their peers and help those kids who may be sitting right next to them in their classroom."
