SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Two girl scouts received top honors on Tuesday. Jessica Hayman and Elizabeth Cross received their Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in girl scouting. The ceremony took place at the Girl Scout's First National Headquarters in Savannah.
A group of scouts visiting from Texas presented the award to the two girls who were not able to attend the original ceremony in March.
"I think it's really exciting and I know I'm really proud of myself and of Jessica. It's really fun to work up to it," said Elizabeth Crofts of Richmond Hill.
"Getting the Gold Award was just something I was going to do. I love volunteer work and helping people, so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary, I don't feel as if I should be appreciated that much. But I guess I am and it's pretty cool," said Jessica Hayman.
To earn the gold award, the girls had to come up with a personal project that required 50 hours of independent work.
