HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has arrested one person in the shooting death of Carlos Alberto Olivera.
"My brother called me and said 'Nelson, I'm on my way over. I'll be there in 5 minutes.' So I was so happy to hear my brother say he was coming to visit me," said Carolos' brother Nelson.
But Nelson Olivera and his family never thought that would be the last time they would get to see his brother. The 34-year-old husband and father of four was shot and killed Christmas Eve after getting into an argument with Preston Oates, a tow truck operator, about a parking violation in the Edgefield community in Bluffton on Live Oak Walk. The argument led to guns being drawn.
"He got into his truck and he showed us a gun, the driver of the truck. So my brother said 'Ha, ha, ha. You think you're going to scare me,' and then my brother showed his gun he had on his waist to the gentleman."
Moments later neighbors say they heard gunshots, leaving Carlos Olivera dead.
Police arrested Oates at 5:00 p.m. at the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Southern Enforcement Substation on Hilton Head Island. He is being held in the Beaufort County Detention Center.
Oates was charged with one count of manslaughter and one count possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
We contacted Pro Tow, but they said they've been told by police not to talk about the incident because of the investigation.
