A unique Hilton Head organization gives thanks to those who support it. Operation R&R, founded by Hilton Head resident, Dr. Grant Evans, is a group of dedicated Island resort agents, restaurant owners, recreation companies and others who've combined to provide no-cost stays and activities for military members and their families, following overseas deployment, who, in all likelihood, would be unable to, themselves afford, such a valuable, reconnecting-get-away on beautiful Hilton Head Island.
At a recent luncheon, Dr. Evans expressed his gratitude to all those who've given of their time and resources, and worked so hard to provide a memory-making stay for these very special families. In turn, Deputy 3rd ID Commander for Support, Colonel Chris Hughes, also thanked the group, this time from the military-family perspective, noting the responsibilities and stresses on the spouses, as well, while a husband or wife is deployed.
Our thanks to Dr. Grant Evans for the vision and inspiration it took to create and energize Operation R&R; to LTC (retired) Brian Gale who coordinates participation from the Army side; to Operation R&R's all-volunteer board; and especially, again, to all those throughout the Hilton Head Island resort community who remain so very committed to giving back to those military members and their families who've given us, and our nation, so very much.
