ATLANTA (AP) - Unusually cool air helped Atlanta and Macon break records for low temperatures. Temperatures fell even lower in the north Georgia mountains. A U.S. Forest Service weather station recorded a low of 48 degrees shortly after 5 o'clock this morning in Union County.

DALLAS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a 42-year-old woman is hospitalized after she was found badly beaten on the Silver Comet Trail northwest of Atlanta. Paulding County sheriff's officials say a bicyclist spotted the badly injured woman, who had been beaten in her head and face, lying on the side of the trail about 6:42 p.m. yesterday. They say she was going in and out of consciousness, and was taken by helicopter to Kennestone Hospital.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah's tap water has been declared as the best-tasting water in the state. Savannah city officials say their water was given the recognition last week during the Georgia Association of Water Professionals Annual Conference.

ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Retail Association is reminding residents that the state's tax holiday is approaching. Officials say state and local sales taxes in most Georgia counties will be waived between Aug. 1 and 2.
