ATLANTA (AP) - The general election campaign pitting GOP businessman David Perdue against Democrat Michelle Nunn is heating up in the race for Georgia's open senate seat. Days after Perdue's runoff victory over Rep. Jack Kingston, the contest opened with Democrats launching attack ads against Perdue, a former CEO of Dollar General.

NEW YORK (AP) - The head of the government lab in Atlanta that potentially exposed workers to live anthrax has resigned. An agency spokeswoman says Michael Farrell was head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lab since 2009 but submitted his resignation earlier this week.

ATLANTA (AP) - A group of corrections agencies is planning to discuss a multi-jurisdictional initiative aimed at cracking down on jail gangs and the use of contraband. The Atlanta Department of Corrections is hosting a discussion Thursday with representatives from five sheriff's offices and the Atlanta Police Department on issues being addressed by the Metro Chief Jailers Group.

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the massive Atlanta Cyclorama painting, which has been on display in Grant Park for the past century, will be moved to the Atlanta History Center in the city's Buckhead area. Reed announced the move Wednesday, saying it take two years to complete and also involve extensive restoration work.
