Red Cross Helping 350 Evacuees in Savannah

The Savannah chapter of the American Red Cross has its hands full. All week long, they've been taking in evacuees from the Gulf Coast. So far, they've processed more than 350 families, helping them with clothing, food, water and temporary shelter.

Many of these people who fled their homes along the Gulf Coast now have nothing left to go back to.

"Two thirds of the people who've come through the center here have no intention of going back to where they came from," said the Red Cross' Dan Kurtz. "They lost everything. There's nothing for them, so they're here in Savannah to start their lives over and we're the first step."

The Savannah chapter of the American Red Cross is expected to receive another 2,500 families in the coming weeks.
