Man Faces Two Counts of Animal Cruelty

A Savannah man was arrested after police say they found a starving dog and the skeletal remains of another dog in his backyard. Akelo Stone, 33, was arrested on two counts of animal cruelty and one count abandoning a dead dog in private property.

Savannah-Chatham police were called to Stone's house Friday night after an animal complaint. They found one dog so malnourished the officer said he could see his ribs. Police called in animal control who searched the yard and found the remains of another dog, still attached to a chain.

Stone told police the dogs belonged to a friend he let use his yard, but police say Stone told them he didn't know the friend's last name.
