One million pennies, one backhoe and one amazing achievement. Today, JCB Construction Equipment made the biggest penny deposit in the history of banking in North America: one million pennies, totaling $10,000.
JCB workers collected the coins for each hour of safe work, an amazing 1 million hours, a record in Georgia.
The deposit was made at SunTrust Bank with a custom-made receptacle.
"I think this is the biggest deposit of pennies in the world, and there will be one million pennies dropped at one time at Suntrust Bank," said JCB's Paul Keogh.
The money will end up as a $10,000 donation to the newly founded Lady Bamford Center for Early Childhood Development, which opened earlier this month.
