Youth Issues Addressed at Town Hall Meeting

Young people and their parents answered the mayor and city council's call last night. They crowded into the Savannah Civic Center Ballroom to talk with city leaders about what needs to be done for young people in the community.

Many young people claim that there is nothing to do, so many fall into a doing things they know are wrong, like breaking the law.

But luckily, at least one organization called All Walks of Life--or AWOL--is filling a void.

"I can't say what AWOL has done for others," said AWOL member LaDon Bucker. "If I can use myself as an example, I was out of school on the streets and AWOL gave me the strength and instilled in my mind what it takes to be a man."

Many others talked about the importance of other community organizations, like the Chatham County Youth Commission, and offered the city suggestions for new programs.

The mayor and council are also developing a task force which will investigate the existing programs and come up with ways to develop other projects for people under the age of 21.
