Another sweltering day in Savannah yesterday, and police say for the third time in the last week, someone left their pet in a hot car.
They arrested 40-year-old Donna Holton and charged her with animal cruelty.
Investigators say she left her small dog in the cab of a pickup truck for more than three hours while visiting a friend in Georgetown.
The dog is okay, but it was hot to the touch and panting heavily when officers showed up.
"It surprises me that someone who would claim to love their pets would leave them exposed to extreme temperatures like this," said Sgt. Mike Wilson of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department.
The dog has been released back to its owners.
