She survived the gas chamber, now the dog known as "amazing" Grace has a new lease on life.

And, a new home.

Grace is leaving her foster family, and the people who saved her, in Liberty County to a bittersweet send off.

Hard to believe, 4 months ago, this hound mix with big puppy dog eyes, was almost killed.

Her name is Grace. Deborah Palpal-latoc saved the 2 year-old dog, who was being euthanized inside a Liberty County gas chamber. Grace was trapped, inside a cage in the chamber, for 30 minutes. All the other dogs died.

Grace was still alive, and rescued.

"She was scared and foaming at the mouth and trying to get out," Deborah told WTOC back in July.

Today, Grace is healthy, happy, playful, and looking better than ever.

"She's just amazing," Deborah said Wednesday morning.

"Amazing" Grace is set to embark on a new phase in her second chance at life.

Phil Draughon saw Grace's story on wtoc.com.

"It was incredible," Phil said. "It brought tears to my eyes, it choked me up, it was overwhelming. It reached out from the screen and touched me. I said I got to do this."

And he did. After months of medical treatments, and hundreds of adoption offers, Phil is taking "amazing" Grace home to Chicago, Illinois.

"She's such sweetheart. I can't wait to get her home," Phil said. "It's a 20 hour trip and I can't wait to make it with her."

"It's very hard, but I know she's going to a great home," Deborah said. "That makes it really great, but I'm going to miss her a whole lot."

One last hug goodbye, and for Deborah, a bittersweet farewell.

"I think Phil is going to give her a great home, and she deserves it," Deborah said. "I'm just going to miss her a lot."

Deborah and all the people who took care of "amazing" Grace are now pushing for the elimination of animal gas chambers nationwide. They are hoping Grace's story will spark some support and animal control reform.
