Hunter Army Airfield is offering up one more way to keep soldiers in shape. This afternoon, they opened their brand new fitness facility. It has places for men and women to pump iron, swim laps in a six-lane indoor pool, try a rock climbing wall, play a game on one of several basketball or racquetball courts. The center even has a fitness store, as well as saunas, whirlpools and a daycare center, so soldiers can work out, without worrying about the kids.
"That's not something you normally see," admitted Garrison Commander Colonel Todd Buchs, "but it's something we did in-house because we know how important it is for our families during these deployment times to be able to work out and relieve some of the stresses related with the deployment."
Hunter Army Airfield officials started planning the new facility 18 months ago. Both Hunter and Fort Stewart won awards for their facilities for the last three years in a row.
