This is a Collins Doprad 32 radar from
Advanced Designs Corporation using a 72 inch parabolic dish antenna. The Radar has been in operation since 1984 and
is located atop a 160 foot tower at the studio which is in central Chatham county at I-16 and
Chatham parkway.
An image is produced every 5 minutes for our Internet site. The animation frames are of every 15 minutes. |

This radar will depict light to significant precipitation out to beyond 200 miles along with nighttime thermal inversions. Normally, under
a clear sky at night with high moisture content, strong thermal inversions will develop that would appear to look like rain echoes. These
inversion show up as false echoes and usually develop over the land aligned parallel to the coast
and near the major rivers. |
