Weekley Wins the Heritage

HILTON HEAD, S.C. (AP) - Boo Weekly chipped in on his final two holes en route to a 3-under-par 68 and the championship of the Verizon Heritage golf tournament.

Weekly was in the clubhouse with a two-shot lead over Ernie Els as the South African played the last hole of the wind-delayed final round. The Big Easy needed an eagle-two on the par-four 18th to force a playoff.

Weekly collected his first PGA Tour title when Els' second shot missed the cup by less than two feet. Els settled for a birdie en route to a 1-under 70 and sole possession of second place. He finished one shot better than Stephen Leaney, who carded a 68. Recently-crowned Masters champion Zach Johnson closed with an even-par 71 to tie for fifth place.

Third-round leader Jerry Kelly ballooned to a 5-over 77 and ended up tied for eighth. Along with $972,000 and a PGA Tour exemption through 2008, Weekly becomes the first PGA Tour winner to qualify for next year's Masters after Augusta National chairman Billy Payne restored a privilege taken away in 1999.
