www.oddpodz.comSavannah resident Matt Barrow considers himself a creative person, but calls himself, simply, a creative. It's a new term for those in the more inventive occupations.
According to Matt, that's "any person that makes money off their creativity. Advertising designers, musicians, interior designers, architects...."
A new online tool with a quirky name--Oddpodz--is offering a virtual gathering space for creatives like Matt to share art, advice and creative musings.
"What they're trying to do with Oddpodz seems like it might be interesting, because it's not really so much about making friends as it is about making business contacts," said Matt. "Or, you know, expanding your artistic portfolio or learning things from other people."
"Oddpodz is a global nation for creatives," explained Oddpodz CEO Karen Post. "A place where change agents, innovators, creative thinkers, optimistic doers unite online to find other people to collaborate with. We have places where you can express yourself."
Building on the pioneering work social networking sites like MySpace, Oddpodz is taking more of a creative slant. As a matter of fact, people who sign up for the site aren't known as members, but citizens of what they're calling the Creative Nation.
And that nation's capital is right here in Savannah.
Post credits "just the energy and the entrepreneurial spirit" in Savannah with helping her and her business partner decide to relocate operations here from Tampa. "And the history's wonderful, but we also know that Savannah's going through a lot of transformation, a lot of new companies. People from all over the world are moving here, and that's very exciting."
"I think it's a real opportunity for Savannah, too," Matt told us. "It's a startup that starting here in Savannah, it's going to be employing people here in Savannah, it's going to give art students at SCAD work to do. They'll all be connected within it."
And it's to be hoped they'll reach out from here to the Creative Nation in cyberspace.
