At Savannah State, students and teachers passed out fliers with the constitution on them.Today is national constitution day, marking the 220th anniversary of the adoption of the United States Constitution.
All institutions that are federally funded have to recognize the day in some way. At Savannah State, students and teachers passed out fliers with the constitution on them, information packets and played trivia games to see how much students know about the important document of freedom.
"The constitution is a living document and although we sometimes forget about the constitution or the importance of it. It's important to remember the constitutions purpose and how it outlines the government functions," said organizer Marshal Hodge.
All day the university also gave students the opportunity to watch films about the constitution and its importance. The holiday was created three years ago to honor the signing of the document in 1787.
