Logging Truck Accident Sends Two to Hospital

A man and a woman were rushed to the hospital this afternoon when their car slammed into a logging truck in Effingham County. It happened just before 1pm off of Old River Road near Highway 80.

The Georgia State Patrol thinks both drivers are to blame.

Troopers said the driver of the car, a PT Cruiser, was speeding; however, they said the logging truck driver failed to stop. The truck driver was not hurt. The couple in the car are expected to recover, but people who witnessed the accident feared the worst.

"I thought it was going to be worse than what it was," said Russ Sanders, from Effingham County. "But they both had their seatbelts on and the airbags deployed, so all the safety devices worked as needed."

Georgia State Patrol troopers and Effingham County Sheriff's deputies had to reroute traffic around the area for about an hour.
