JEFF DAVIS COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - A Montgomery County man and his mother face murder charges from a Friday night shooting death of his wife.

GBI agents and sheriff's deputies walked the Altamaha River bridge along Highway 221 looking for evidence. This is where Allison Bamberg was shot and killed. Her estranged husband Damon and his mother Sonya face murder charges in her death.

Sheriff Jimmy Boatright says Allison's father called 911 Friday night. "She was on the phone with him and said somebody had just shot out her window," said Boatright.

The couple was days from finalizing their divorce. Boatright says their latest and last fight started miles from the shooting in Montgomery County.

The couple had agreed to meet at a gas station in Uvalda to exchange their children for the weekend. With the swap came heated words and the fight began.

Sheriff Boatright says Bamberg chased down his wife and opened fire with his mother and small children with him in the car. He also says that with Allison dead on the side of the road, Damon then went to the Montgomery County's Sheriff's Office and filed an assault complaint against his wife for the earlier fight.

"I thought I had just about seen everything in this business and you get one like this," says Boatright.

Damon Bamberg and Sonya Bamberg remain in the Jeff Davis County jail.
