TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - We're less than two days away from the Tour De Georgia. This year, racing teams will start the seven day cycling event from Tybee Island and businesses around the island are getting ready to welcome both them and fans.
As cyclists spend the weekend warming up, businesses on Tybee Island are making their own preparations.
"We've had to order extra food and alcohol to prepare for the riders and their teams and staff to make sure we're ready," said Sting Rays owner Ray Rogers.
"We've been making a lot of ice cream and we really tend to have to stay ahead of the curve when we have an expected influx of people," said Seaweeds owner Michelle Myrick.
All the preparation is for the Tour de Georgia which starts Monday on Tybee Island.
"Come Monday we're ready and very excited," said Myrick.
Seaweeds is a local ice cream shop and Myric said the last few days have been hectic with a lot of stocking up to make sure that participants and spectators will have a refreshing sweet spot to check out.
"They can get some great home made ice cream, premium and we like to play around with our ingredients," said Myrick.
Further down the road, workers at Sting Rays were also getting ready for race day.
"We're excited about all the bikers and their teams being here and start the tour on Tybee. It's a big weekend here on Tybee," said Rogers.
One that local businesses and residents are proud to be part of.
"It's exciting to stand out and watch all these bikers because you see the Tour de France every year on TV and to see them here it makes you feel a part of a special event," said Rogers.
Opening ceremonies begin Monday morning at 9:30am and the race begins at 10:30am on Strand Avenue, Tybee Island.
