SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One woman is using what she learned from a tragic event which happened in her life to help others.

Thousands of people die every year because they can't afford health insurance and Leslie Boyd said one of them was her son.

Boyd started LifeOMike, a non profit organization named in memory of her son, Mike Danforth, an honor student at Armstrong Atlantic State University.

Today the group held a health care for all rally in Daffin Park. The goal is to bring more attention to the many who don't have health insurance and cant get the preventative treatment they need. Boyd said it's important for their stories to be told.

"You just need to tell the stories, we need people to understand these are nameless people. my son was a wonderful human being and now he's gone," said Boyd.

Danforth died in April at the age of 33 from colon cancer. His mother said the cancer went untreated because he had no health insurance.
