Jim Martin campaigning in Atlanta today. One month ago, Martin was considered a long shot to beat Cambliss, but what a difference a few weeks can make.
Now, many consider him prime for the big upset over Chambliss. Today, Martin rallied supporters at places like the varsity cafe, meeting greeting voters throughout the metro Atlanta area.
A few months ago, Martin could have been an unknown to voters, but not anymore.
"I've always believed in myself and now the voters are believing in me," said Martin.
Since the economy took a tumble and negative tv ads filled the air waves, Martin's bid to unseed Chambliss has received a better late than never kick start, some even predicting a Martin victory.
"I feel really good, it's a big day. Today is the day that voters take ownership of government. I'm pleased with the turnout and the response I've been getting," said Martin.
While he spent Election Day greeting voters and pushing people to vote, Martin is expected to do well with newly registered democratic voters.
"It just happens to be that people are really looking for someone to be independent in Washington," said Martin.
What is unknown is if a third party candidate may spoil Martin's victory celebration.
