HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - Counties all across our region saw tremendous early voting leading up to today, but depending on where and when voters cast their ballot, the may have seen long lines or a quick walk to the voting machine.
Turnouts turned from floods to trickles and back in Liberty County. In Hinesville, Lewis Frasier Middle School was empty around mid morning. But poll worker Dilenia Ross saw a tidal wave before daylight.
"When I came in at 5:45, the line was to the street. So it's been busy. We had 2,000 people in here getting them in and out," she described.
Miles away, lines continued through the morning in Midway. For others, the trip to the ballot box was a quick one.
"From what I heard this morning lines were long but I was in and out in 10 minutes," noted Bill Goodwin.
"So many people who had never voted before came out for this election," Ross added.
19-year-old Jasmine Clarke came to the polls with her parents. She was surprised how quickly they went through the process.
Some poll workers thought early voting had eased some of the crowds they normally see during the day.
Even with those advancements, to some people there's something important almost sacred about voting on election day.
"For my daughter so she could experience it on November 4th," Jasmine's father John Clarke stated. "The next one she can do it early, on paper, whatever."
Liberty County election supervisor Ella Golden says poll workers at Fleming Baptist Church near Midway had problems with three of their seven voting machines for about an hour Tuesday but they got them fixed quickly.
