SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah State University student Devon McIntosh has been denied bond.

Police say McIntosh shot another student, Quinton Winfield, on Friday. McIntosh was arrested on Friday for aggravated assault. See Campus shooting suspect in custody.

After listening to both sides, the judge denied McIntosh bond.

The student who was shot, Quinton Winfield, is still recovering in the hospital.

We spoke to the mother of the victim, Margaret Winfield, who says she is very upset, not only because of her son, but for the McIntosh family as well. She says this is a fight that just went to far.

It was a very emotional day for Winfield as she saw the man accused of shooting her son for the very first time in the courtroom.

SSU's campus police say Devon McIntosh shot Quinton Winfield in the arm and stomach after the they got into a verbal fight on Friday morning.

"Feeling for the family for the guy who shot my son and thinking about my son, it's very emotional," said Winfield.

Winfield says when she got the call Friday morning, she couldn't believe her son had been a victim of shooting. But what made it worse is that it happened on campus.

"In a college area where there should be protection, don't think that's gonna happen, you expect it to be outside a college campus not right there on campus," said Winfield. "It's a terrible tragedy people should learn how to stop and learn how to deal with confrontation and not take it to the next level by doing things like this and shooting each other."

And because of this incident, two lives will be changed forever.

"Kids will be kids and they will get in to fights, but you don't expect a gun shot," she said.

Now her son Quinton will have a long road to recovery and Devon McIntosh will be spending a lot of time in the courtroom.

"This is a college student who's life has been ended because he is gonna be locked up," said Winfield.

Winfield' says her son should be getting out of hospital in the next couple of days. McIntosh will be back in the courtroom on December 4 for his preliminary hearing.
